Loss is one of the deepest human experiences that leave a profound impact on the human psyche, and artists have expressed this complex feeling in a variety of ways, using art as a means of expressing sadness, longing and loss, and reflecting on life and death. This research aims to examine how artists embodied the concept of loss in their works, and what different dimensions they explore through this theme. The researcher dealt with a number of artists in the modern era from the West, such as René Magritt and Francis Bacon, and Arab examplars such as the Alexandrian artist Seif Wanly, and then contemporary generations that expressed the loss in artworks such as Somaya Al-Haddad, Marwa Ismail, Pansé Ahmed, and Nourhan Al-Mahdi.
We can see the contradictions in the artworks between joy and pain, between the power of expression in the faces and the softness of the performance, thus embodying part of the inner suffering that I have captured in my heart and recorded with my brush, as the artworks here are an expression of the self, with all of its pains, revealed by creativity. Formations that mix between humans, birds, plants, flowers, and paintings representing repetition and transparency, appeared. Since pain was the biggest motivation for creativity and inspiration, the paintings were full of pain yet seemingly vivid.
